Advanced Reflexology & Digestion

Our Stomach is Our Second Brain
Did you know that our stomach is our second brain? There is an entire ecosystem of bacteria and a vast neural network operating in our gut.  It is not a thinking brain that reasons or creates but it can influence your mood and general health.
The enteric nervous system comprises of some 100 million neurons which is more than the spinal cord. It is a mesh-like network of neurons that line the entire digestive tract.
90 % of the cells received carry information to the brain rather than receiving messages from it. That's where we receive that 'gut feeling' as it is connected to our psychological stress response.
The enteric nervous system also communicates with bacteria which are completely separate from us. They make up the microbiome that help digest our food and fight off viruses and molds.

Digestion and Reflexology
There are many health issues and causes related to an imbalanced gut. An initial consultation and observation of a clients foot such as colour, temperature, skin texture may give some indicators to the state of their digestive system. There are specific reflexes that will work on the intestinal areas e.g. congestion in the colon is likely to be caused by congestion in the kidney. Therefore the kidney reflex point will be stimulated, resulting in eliminating toxic waste which has been sluggish to move before. This could therefore assist in preventing the formation of kidney stones or infections. Please note that  in some cases I might request you seek medical advice from your GP if I perceive a disorder that might compromise your reflexology treatment.

Healthy Digestion Habits
  • Sit down when you eat your meals.
  • Chew food adequately.
  • Don't drink too much liquid with your meals as this will dilute digestive juices.
  • Eat smaller amounts more frequently than a few large amounts during the day.
  • Do not eat if you are angry or stressed.  This will cause the stomach to shut down.
  • Avoid tea, coffee and smoking during mealtimes.
  • Include healthy foods such as oily fish, avacado and olive oil.

 Solar Plexus Chakra
Energetically it represents the third chakra Manipura which corresponds with metabolism and digestion.  It is located  around the navel area near the upper abdomen and breastbone.
The solar plexus chakra is associated with fire and the power of transformation, correlating with a balanced ego and how we  establish our personal power in the world.
Create a peaceful space and focus on the energy around your naval placing both hands over it, 'I stand in my personal power.'
By assisting your Solar Plexus you will have a balanced ego, high self-worth, and enhance your confidence.
