What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a specific pressure technique which is applied to the feet and hands to stimulate the flow of energy. This can assist in relieving pain or blockages throughout the entire body. Reflex areas in the feet and hands correspond to all glands, organs and structures of the body. The belief being that the image of the body is represented on the surface of the foot. It is a natural, holistic and non invasive therapy treating the whole body not just specific symptoms.
The Reflexology Treatment
I will begin the treatment by reading the feet whilst the client sits or lies on a reflexology chair. The colour, temperature, texture, odour, tone, mobility and nail condition provide many clues to a person's health and lifestyle. After a short foot massage I then perform a treatment specifically for the clients needs using the pressure point technique. I can incorporate 100% pure essential oils if requested.

Recommended
Although a one off treatment is highly beneficial, I recommend a course of 6 treatments which can be spread over a 6 month period. Though I recommend it to be spread over 3 months. This allows me to obtain an in depth overview of the clients health requirements. On every visit I examine the clients' feet and note any changes. I can then adapt each treatment and focus on specific reflex areas that require stimulating in order to bring about state of balance. I spend time with my clients after the treatment giving feedback and advising them on homecare so they can continue to improve their health in all aspects of their life. Ancient History of Reflexology
In Egypt 2330 BC a wall hieroglyphic in the tomb of the physician Ankhmahor depicting a form of foot and hand treatment translated as the patient saying 'don't hurt me' with the practitioner replying 'I will act so you praise me'. By 2500 BC in China acupuncture was evident with pressure points on the feet. Today local village doctors still implement a type of reflexology called Rwu-Shu. Cherokee native American tribes have a tradition of treating the whole body via the feet which has been passed down through generations. It is still practised openly within tribes. In India there is an ancient Sanskrit foot chart. Ayurvedic medicine uses a pressure technique on the feet. They are thought to symbolise the unity of the universe and the ultimate one. |
