Bollocks to Blue Monday!

1/21/2015

Comments

According to the media the Monday just passed was supposed to be the most depressing day of the year. This has become a continuous theme in the media over the years that every third Monday of January is the bleakest day for our mental health. Do we really need to be told this? I ponder to myself, has science come up with some amazing instrument that collectively measures the entire populations mood frequency. Who are they to tell me how I'm feeling.
I was going to write a marketing article about the January blues and how a blast of reflexology would be a great pick me up in this cold, dark melancholic month. But bollocks to the January blues! It's all in the mind. True, those natural summer rays release happy endorphins but so does running, spicy food, meditation and eating chocolate! All within moderation of course, wise words of Hippocrates.
Although so many of us are still paying off our Christmas debts it is equally a time of optimism and planning for summer holidays. January is a time for quiet introspection. Being aware of what no longer serves us and removing it from our lives. Thus clearing the way for new beneficial manifestations. This can alleviate us from excess baggage which I find uplifting. I love the warmth of these cosy evenings snuggled up at home, gazing at wispy pink winter skies and being acutely aware of  brittle grass breaking under my feet. January brings all of these and much more to me. All I have to do is raise my awareness of what brings cheer and gratitude into my life.
Depression. I'm not going to be dictated to about when I'm supposed to be so depressed. That would be a dangerous thing to do. Depression is complex and thrives throughout the year. But don't tell the media and pharmaceutical companies this. They might not shift their o so blue Monday articles and serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine releasing pills.
Reflexology is a fab pick me up particularly on the fourth Friday of February, third Thursday of August and the second Saturday of September. Got to throw in a bit of marketing somewhere! Right where did I leave that slab of dark rich chilli chocolate?
